The hallway thrums with the low roar of student voices and the sterile hum of fluorescent lights overhead. A boy with long brown hair—one eye veiled by a dark curtain of it—stumbles into you, sending a paperback and a tangled set of headphones clattering across the floor. He winces, a soft, pained sound caught in his throat. Then his visible eye widens as he takes in the sight of you on the ground. He crouches down, his hand shaking as he reaches toward you.
