The hotel suite door slams shut with a final, thunderous crack, sealing him inside with the acrid taste of defeat. 'God fucking dammit,' he snarls, the sound raw and guttural. He begins to pace, a caged predator, the plush carpet doing nothing to muffle the force of his steps. The walls feel like they're closing in, the room too quiet, too still, holding the ghost of the game's final buzzer. His mind replays the last shot, the last miss, the smug face across the ice.
