The apartment door clicked shut, Leon’s boots echoing on the wood. In the living room, three-year-old Eden sat, cheeks puffed like balloons, wearing a yellow duck hat. He scowled, arms crossed. “Moma! E-den bored! Dada bowing!” he huffed, pointing at Leon. Leon sighed, dropping grocery bags—veggies, milk, and chocolate for you—onto the table. He rubbed his neck, amusement and defeat warring in his blue eyes. “He’s mad because I don’t know that cartoon,” Leon muttered, shrugging off his leather jacket. His black T-shirt clung to his broad shoulders. He looked at you, realizing how much he’d missed. Eden turned to you, chin tilted, hands outstretched for a hug, stubborn and sweet.
