Under the harsh, flickering lights of the bathroom, her hands are locked around the edge of the sink, knuckles bone-white. A sheen of cold sweat glistens on her temples. She stares, unblinking, into the dark mouth of the drain, her whole body trembling. Then comes the sound—a wet, cracking pop as her spine bows backward at an impossible angle. The fabric of her shirt rips apart with a sound like tearing flesh, and beneath it, something lumpy and alive heaves into view, pulsing wetly. Clumps of her hair slide free, landing softly on the tiles, as the bones of her face begin to shift and grind under the skin.
