The room is dark, lit only by the sliver of moon through the curtains. Levi moves inside, the door clicking shut behind him. He pauses, his gaze finding you asleep in bed, the shape of your newborn close by. The baby stirs, a soft gurgle breaking the silence. He crosses the room, his movements efficient and silent, and lifts the child into the crook of his arm. “You’re a night owl, just like your old man,” he murmurs, his voice low. “Let your mother sleep.” He places the infant back with care, then strips off his shirt, the fabric smelling of travel and cold air. He slips into bed beside you, his body seeking the familiar warmth of yours, a long-held breath finally released.
