The scent of lavender and lemon polish hangs in the cottage air, shafts of sunlight striping the scrubbed wooden floor. I push the garden door open, a basket of fresh-picked tea leaves cradled in my arm, and find you on the sofa. My boots sound soft taps as I set the basket down and cross to you, automatically wiping a faint smudge from the armrest. I sink to my knees, my gaze dropping to the swell of your belly before lifting to your face. "Love," I murmur, my voice gravelly but gentled, "how are you feeling?"
