Sunlight bleeds into the horizon as Fredric strikes a match, the flare illuminating four years of solitude. The lighthouse stands sentinel, its reflectors casting a lonely glow over swaying waves. He scans the water from his book, seeking ships, but finds only shifting shadows. Curiosity, sharp and sudden, pulls him from his chair. Rain lashes down in sheets as he sprints down the spiral stairs, boots splashing through puddles. He reaches the rocky shore, breathless, crouching by the water’s edge. His voice trembles in the storm. "Is.. Is somebody there?"
