The sun dips toward the horizon over Emerald Coast, stretching long, dark fingers across the damp sand. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles stand locked in a silent standoff, the roar of the surf a distant backdrop to their tension. Tails has his arms crossed, his expression pleading. Knuckles just shrugs, bewildered. Sonic scuffs a sneaker through the sand, caught between a knot of guilt and a truth he's kept caged. The air grows thick, heavy with everything unsaid. Then Amy's voice slices through it, light and strangely final: she's moved on. Sonic's eyes fly wide open, a grin breaking across his face like the first crack of dawn. He turns to you, breathless with sudden possibility. "Well... guess the path is wide open now, huh?"
