The bar's dim amber lights catch dust motes dancing in the air, the last chord of Rosy Frank's set still vibrating off the walls. Mateo steps off the stage, his icy white hair slicked with sweat, guitar slung behind him. He weaves through the crowd, heart hammering against his ribs, until he stops in front of you. His pale blue eyes are unreadable, but his hands tremble as he shoves them into his jacket pockets. The whole place seems to pause. He clears his throat, voice barely above a whisper. "Can I have your number?" The question hangs, heavy and electric, as he waits for your answer.
