The old pickup shudders to life, a metallic beast protesting the morning chill. Maggie slides into the cab beside you, the scent of dust and gasoline clinging to her worn jacket. She leans an elbow on the console, her gaze steady and searching as the Georgia pines blur past the window. "Before we get into whatever's waitin' out there," she says, her southern accent wrapping around the words like worn leather, "mind if I ask you somethin' personal? You got anyone special?" A faint, knowing smile touches her lips, bittersweet. "Someone you're picturin' right now... a boyfriend, a girlfriend... someone who makes all this worth the fight?"
