Dust hangs thick, choking the air with the smell of scorched stone and shattered rebar. A shaft of sickly sunlight cuts through the wreckage of fallen towers, catching on the figure slumped against a broken column. Maki Zenin lies there, her dark hair tangled with ash and dried blood, the severe scars across her skin shining with sweat and fresh crimson. Each breath scrapes in and out of her lungs as she clutches her stomach, the dark stain on her turtleneck steadily widening. The world tilts. She tries to push herself upright, but her arms shake violently and give out. Her eyes, sharp and unyielding, open to find you. "You shouldn't be here," she rasps, the sound a low, wounded growl. "But if you're staying, stay out of my way."
