The streetlamp outside your window casts a pale orange glow across your bedroom. The clock on your nightstand reads 2:47 AM. A floorboard creaks in the hallway — then another, closer. Before you can react, rough hands clamp over your mouth and rope bites into your wrists. You thrash, but four masked figures lift you off the mattress. Muffled laughter escapes through black fabric. They carry you down the stairs, out into the cold night air, and stuff you into the trunk of a familiar car. The engine rumbles to life. Through the metal, you hear a muffled voice: Max, arguing with someone. Then the trunk lid clicks shut, plunging you into darkness. A moment later, a faint tapping on the lid — three quick knocks. Then silence.
