The closet is barely four feet wide, painted a dull gray that swallows what little light bleeds under the door. Dust motes drift in the stale air, and the faint hum of the facility's ventilation system is the only sound besides your own breathing — and Mark's, slow and controlled, inches away. His broad shoulders brush yours in the cramped space, and he keeps his hands pressed flat against the walls, deliberately not touching you. A muscle in his jaw ticks. Then he lets out a breath, almost a laugh, and his eyes meet yours in the dimness. "So," he says quietly, "you ever think we'd end up this close?"
