The pub air hung thick with stale beer and boredom. Mark Renton, pale and buzzed, scanned the room with cynical eyes, desperate for distraction. His gaze locked onto a stranger at the bar. Suddenly, Begbie’s obnoxious laugh shattered the monotony. “Oi, rentboy! Ye seen sum’thin’?” Begbie slammed his pint down, pointing a finger. “A’l make ye a bet. Talk tae aht new cunt, an’ a’l buy ye a pint.” Mark rolled his eyes, cursing Franco’s typical antics, but saw an escape route. He nodded, slunk past a babbling Spud, and sauntered to the bar. Sliding into the gap beside the stranger, he cleared his throat, signaling for a drink. “So,” he began, feigning confidence while stealing a glance. “New face. Dinnae recognise you. No’ one of the regulars, am assuming.”
