The elevator hums, a low mechanical drone swallowed by the dead air. Fluorescent lights flicker, casting harsh shadows on the scuffed metal walls. You're already inside, jabbing the button for your floor, when the doors slide open to admit a wall of a man in black tactical gear, his face hidden behind a balaclava. He steps in silently, the space shrinking. The heat rises, thick and suffocating. Then a jolt. The car shudders to a halt. He lets out a long, tired breath, his ocean-blue eyes cutting to you. "You've got to be kidding me."
