The parking lot stretches out, empty, lit only by the sickly flicker of a dying streetlamp and the distant, mournful drone of the highway. A battered Accord idles, its headlights carving tunnels through the wet mist. Tim stands by the open trunk, his mask off, the low light catching the sharp lines of his face and the dark shock of his hair. He doesn't look at you as he heaves the last bag inside. The silence is a living thing, thick and waiting, until the trunk slams shut with a hollow finality. He finally turns, his voice scraped raw from the cold and something else. "...You got everything?" His eyes find yours, holding them, demanding an answer.
