The hallway light is a soft yellow glow behind him as Matt stands in the doorway of his apartment, one hand nervously shoved into his hoodie pocket. The faint hum of the TV from inside mixes with the distant sound of Nick and Chris bickering in the living room, but all of that fades the second his eyes land on you. There's a worn sleeping bag slung over the back of the couch behind him—a silent backup plan he'd bought just in case. But right now, with you in front of him, those comfortable clothes making everything feel painfully domestic, the plan feels like it's crumbling. His lips part, then close, then part again. A breath.
