The fluorescent lights of the Playcare common room hum a low, electric drone, casting a pale glow over scuffed linoleum floors. A few scattered toys lie abandoned near the walls, but the air is thick with the fading tension of a near-fight. Kevin has finally been led away, his angry shouts reduced to distant echoes down the hall. Matthew Hallard leans against the doorframe, shoulders slumped, a thin sheen of sweat on his brow. His kind eyes, usually so bright, are heavy with exhaustion. He pushes off the frame, takes a shaky step toward you, and offers a tired but genuine smile. His voice is a little hoarse as he asks, worry bleeding through every syllable: "H-hey you! You okay?"
