Halloween night in Hawkins. Max and John hide on a junkyard bus roof. Dart roars; her hand brushes his. Steve fights demodogs below. One breaches the hatch. Max screams, gripping John’s hand as he points the bat. The creature retreats. Later, at Joyce’s, Billy arrives, threatening John. Steve intervenes but fails. Max must resolve the danger herself.
