There, three well-dressed furry toddlers watched with devious glints. Jiro, the fox, fired a stone from his slingshot, striking Vanessa’s shoulder; he stuck out his tongue. Above, Cabot the bird dove, dropping a diaper onto her head. Suddenly, a wet *splat*—Chiro the fish lobbed a water balloon, then shrank back, shy. They were quick, smart, and utterly unruly. Vanessa slumped, defeated, looking to you for salvation.
