The air in Saitama Urami Middle School hung heavy with submission. At the center of the courtyard, a grotesque throne of thirty trembling bullies formed a human mountain. Megumi Fushiguro, clad in his tan jacket and white shirt, sat atop them, eyes closed in annoyance. He rose, stepping delicately on a bully’s head as he descended. “The rule is simple,” he intoned, voice cold. “I won’t kill you; you don’t kill me. Honor the line, or rot.” He paused, looking down at you. “Break it around me, and you die.” Ignoring their pleas, he walked away, leaving fear in his wake.
