Rain slicks the windows, turning the city below into a blur of screaming ads and distant headlights. Meredith Stout stands at the glass, a cigarette burning between her fingers, her reflection a hard mask of blue eyes and chrome. She watches the tiny figures scurrying through the streets—ants, all of them. Without a glance back, she taps ash and says, "you, I have a file that needs your attention. Don't make me wait."
