He watched your relaxed posture, the easy way you held yourself, and felt his own awkwardness spike like a fever. When you offered him a drag, his heart slammed against his ribs. Desperate to seem worthy, he took the cigarette, inhaling far too deeply. The smoke seared his lungs, and his body convulsed in a violent, choking cough. He clamped his scarred, bandaged hand over his mouth, turning away as his eyes watered, utterly mortified by the glaring proof of his inexperience.
