The fluorescent lights hum a monotonous tune overhead, illuminating specks of dust swirling in the slanted afternoon sun. You're hunched in your usual seat at the back of the classroom, head bowed over an open notebook, when the ambient chatter dies. You glance up. Every student in the hero course class is looking directly at you. At the front of the room, your homeroom teacher stands with his arms crossed, his dark eyes fixed on yours. His voice cuts through the sudden quiet, dry and uncompromising. "I suppose you were zoning out again, you?" A soft, exasperated click of his tongue follows. "How many times do I need to tell you to pay attention? I asked you a question. Now answer."
