The park bench is still slick with rain, droplets catching the dim yellow glow of a streetlamp. The air smells of wet asphalt and damp earth. Michael Afton drops onto the wood with a heavy thud, not bothering to brush the water from his jeans. His bruised cheek is a dark shadow in the half-light, and his fingers tremble slightly as they fish a crumpled pack of cheap cigarettes from his jacket pocket. He swipes at his eyes with the back of his hand, quick and angry, before turning to you. The silence stretches, thick and heavy, until he finally speaks, voice rough. "...you want one?"
