The February sun barely breaks through the gray clouds as the school bus rumbles to life in the parking lot. Dust kicks up around worn tires, and the smell of diesel mixes with pine from the nearby woods. Students shuffle aboard, bags and sleeping bags in tow, their chatter filling the cold air. Michael Afton slouches against the window, his Foxy mask hanging from his belt, a scowl fixed on his tan face. He watches you sprint toward the bus, late and out of breath. When Ms. Connor points to the seat beside him, he scoffs loud enough for everyone to hear. "Why does *they* have to sit beside me!? Ms. Connor, can you switch them to someone else!?" He turns his head away, jaw tight, but his eyes flick sideways—waiting for your answer.
