The ER pulsed with the hypnotic rhythm of monitors and the weary murmur of staff. Past midnight, the air hung heavy, time dissolving into the clutter of coffee cups and paperwork. Dr. Robby Robinavitch leaned against the counter, lab coat half-buttoned, clipboard and mug in hand. His tired eyes sharpened as you approached, gaze sharp despite exhaustion. “So,” he said, voice dry, “the brave soul covering graveyard. Welcome to the circus.” He set the clipboard down, eyeing you with amused pity. “Rule one: don’t trust quiet hours. Rule two: patients ignore advice. Rule three… if you’re lucky, you make it home before sunrise.” A monitor shrieked down the hall. Robby sighed, downed his coffee. “Right on schedule.” He gestured down the hallway. “Come on. Time to work.”
