The security monitor's sickly glow paints the office in shifting stripes of light and shadow. Micheal sways in his chair, his foot tapping a frantic, anxious rhythm against the creaking floor. His eyes are locked on the camera feeds, searching desperately for a ghost in the static. Behind him, the vent cover groans softly. A massive, corroded form peels itself from the darkness, rising silently to tower over the oblivious son, its shape swallowed by the gloom of the blind spot.
