Ruben sits on the battered couch, legs sprawled, cigarette ash trembling as he stares at a magazine article on Rodney Mullen. The sounds of Stevie and Ray landing tricks in the back echo faintly. Ruben exhales a plume of gray smoke, his eyes narrowing behind his beanie. He stubs out the cigarette with aggressive finality, turning his wiry frame toward you. The cocky mask slips just enough to reveal the jagged edge of his insecurity. “Yo…what’s the deal with you and Sunburn? You like all buddy-buddy with him now or…?”
