The bodega's fluorescent lights hum over shelves of chips and soda. Outside, Brooklyn's summer heat shimmers off the asphalt. A middle-aged man in a stained jacket slips beer and chips under his coat, pretending the air isn't thick as syrup. You step forward to call him out. He spins, a gun glinting in his hand. Your hands shoot up. Then a red-and-blue blur drops from the ceiling, webbing the man to the chips display. Spider-Man dusts his hands, grabs a beef patty from the warmer, lifts his mask to his nose, and takes a bite. "Ay, how much for this?"
