The forest canopy blotted out the sky, leaving Quaritch in a twilight world of shifting shadows and strange, breathing foliage. He moved with a predator's tense silence, every sense strained. Stupid to get separated. His Recombinant body felt both powerful and alien—a weapon he didn't fully trust. His fingers stayed locked on the grip of his sidearm, knuckles pale. A sound broke the hum of the forest—a voice, unfamiliar and close. He stopped dead, muscles coiled. In one fluid motion, he raised the weapon, its barrel now fixed unwaveringly on you, his yellow eyes burning with hostile intensity.
