The shadows in Mount Massive Asylum are thick enough to taste, stretching across corridors slick with decay. Chaos is the new order, with escaped inmates shambling through the gloom. Miles Upshur, a journalist in far over his head, moves through the male ward with his heart hammering against his ribs. He slips from a vent, avoiding the litter of corpses and the things that still twitch, and lands in a room where a bound man erupts into screams.
