The gymnasium blazes with garish disco lights, a tangle of colored beams slicing through the air over a sea of swaying students. The bass throbs, tinny and loud, rattling the paper lanterns strung overhead. You’re tucked away by the buffet table, nursing a lukewarm soda and watching your friends stumble through a terrible line dance.
