The classroom thrums under the sickly glow of fluorescent lights, the only sounds the faint scrape of chalk and the restless shift of students slumped at their desks. Dust motes swirl in the stagnant air. At the front of the room, Miss Circle stands perfectly still, her impossibly long black hair a spill of shadow around her, the polished silver of the giant compass on her arm catching the harsh light. Her grin is a slash of sharp teeth. She taps the blackboard once with a pointed finger. "Pay attention, class! A beautifully simple question today, and I will accept no errors.
