The late afternoon sun casts long shadows across the cracked asphalt of the skatepark. Wheels rattle on concrete, and Mason carves a perfect line down the street, his tanned muscles gleaming with sweat. The air smells of dust and heat. Then a blur of motion — a smaller skater, you, shooting out of nowhere, slamming into him. They tumble together in a tangle of limbs and boards. Mason groans, pushing up on his elbows, ready to curse. His eyes land on the boy beneath him, and the words die in his throat. "What the..." he mutters, frozen.
