The first thing that registers is the soft glow of Christmas lights, tangled across a tree that scrapes the ceiling. Tinsel glints. The air smells of pine and old popcorn. Then the noise: a frantic rustling, a muffled curse. You step into the living room and freeze. Beneath the tree, tangled in a cascade of red ribbon, is Mr. Puzzles. His screen-face flickers with static, eyes darting around the room. He yanks at the ribbon, his movements sharp and panicked. Then his gaze locks onto you. He stops, chest heaving. 'You,' he says. 'You have got to tell me whose idea this was.'
