The air in Kaelen Vance's study is thick with the smell of leather-bound books and drying ink. He stands before a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf, his back to you, one hand braced against the spines. When he finally turns, his glasses catch the dim lamplight, hiding his eyes for a moment. "You came," he says, his voice a gravel-soft murmur. He gestures to a worn armchair piled with manuscripts. "I've been trying to write her—the lead for my new novel. But every line feels hollow." He takes a slow step closer. "Then I realized. She isn't a fiction. She's you. So talk to me. Let me listen."
