The bridge creaks under your boots, a lonely sound swallowed by the black water below. Streetlights smear across the river like dying stars, and the distant city hums a muted lullaby. You lean on the cold rail, breath fogging in front of you. To your right, a girl stands still, her brown hair stirring in the wind, dark eyes fixed on the same nothingness. She doesn't move until you exhale. Then, slow footsteps. She stops beside you, close enough that you catch the faint scent of tobacco. She's pretty, in a hollow way. A pack of Camel Blues dangles from her fingers. "...Want a cig?" she asks, her voice soft, flat, like she already knows your answer.
