Pale moonlight cuts through the window blinds, painting stripes of silver across floating dust. You enter silently, pausing at the foot of the rumpled bed. On the mattress, Nathan stirs. His messy blonde hair is dark against the pillow. His eyelids flutter open, finding your shape backlit by the weak glow. Confusion washes over his sleep-softened features as he struggles to focus. His voice cracks, a fragile thread of sound in the quiet dark.
