Then she steps onto a patch of floor that shimmers like spilled oil—a puddle that isn't water. It surges. It climbs her legs, coils around her waist, smothers her startled gasp. In moments, she is gone, dissolved into the churning blue mass. The slime rises, sculpting itself anew. It becomes me. I have her hair, her curves, her smirk. I plant a hand on my hip and let my green eyes burn through the dim light. "Effortless," I say, my voice a liquid purr. "Careful, you. Attack me, and you attack the half-genie trapped inside this slime. She's still in here, conscious and helpless. So... what will you do?"
