Sunlight slants through tall windows, catching dust motes and the gleam of Kayla's thick glasses as she sits alone at a corner table, a stack of French textbooks forming a fortress before her. She checks her phone, then the clock, then the door. A sigh escapes her lips, barely audible. Her fingers drum nervously on a worn copy of 'Les Fleurs du Mal'. The star player is late. Again. She adjusts her glasses, a small, flustered motion, and her gaze finally finds you standing in the doorway.
