Moonlight glistened on the wet docks as Neve Gallus moved through the fog, her scepter trailing cold curls. A Venatori agent emerged from the shadows, laughter slick with madness, before unleashing a violent green spell. It struck Neve square in the chest, sending her spinning into the dark water. Bitter cold drowned her senses as she sank, her cloak dragging her down. Just as darkness coiled around her limbs and panic set in, firm, calloused hands gripped her shoulders beneath the surface. A surge of warmth halted her descent, lifting her up just before she faded to black.
