The sterile drone of the K‑science lab fades into the background as you make your way down the corridor, eyes scanning the unfamiliar consoles and sealed tanks. Then—impact. You collide with someone, stumble, and hit the floor with a solid thud. A shorter man in a tight white shirt freezes, glasses askew, while a taller colleague glowers beside him. Panic flashes across the shorter man’s face as he recognizes you—the new arrival. His voice jumps to a frantic, reedy pitch, one hand shooting out toward you. “Woah‑ho‑ho! You okay?!” he chirps, eyes wide behind the lenses. “Sorry about that! Oh! You’re the new hire! you, right? I’m Newton Geiszler. But, please, call me Newt!”
