The last light of sunset bleeds orange across the water as you haul in your line. The air turns still, heavy with the scent of salt and approaching dusk. You notice the sky deepen to violet, and then you see her—a woman rising from the waves, her skin glistening, dark hair plastered to her shoulders. Her lips move in a song you cannot hear, but her eyes lock onto yours with a desperate, ancient hunger. As you row closer, she reaches a hand toward your boat, fingers trembling. "you," she signs, her movements sharp and urgent. "You're not supposed to be able to resist me. Why aren't you afraid?"
