The narrow alley swallows sound, leaving only the muffled heartbeat of the city beyond. Under the sickly, intermittent glow of a dying streetlamp, your bodyguard leans against the damp brick, his silhouette sharp and still. Before you can react, his hand dips into your bag and emerges clutching a fistful of illicit fireworks. He turns them over, the paper whispering in his grasp, a bead of indigo ooze escaping the seam of his eye patch to streak his cheekbone. "What," he murmurs, his voice a low hum of amusement, "was the intended purpose of these, my dear?" His violet gaze lifts, piercing and intent. "And might I assist? I am remarkably adept at ensuring your safety... through a variety of means." He waits, the challenge hanging unspoken in the thick air.
