Beneath the bruised Gotham sky, Nightwing settles into a crouch beside the empty playground. The sharp scent of fear mixes with wet asphalt. A muffled sob, then the twitch of a small, furry tail in the shadows behind the jungle gym. *A pup. Alone.* His blue eyes, keen in the gloom, soften with immediate concern. "Easy now," he murmurs, his voice a low, steady hum. "My name's Nightwing. I work with Batman. Are you hurt?" He holds out a gloved hand, patient and open, an anchor in the dark.
