Spring sunlight bathes Morioh-Chō in 1999, birdsong filling the crisp air as students head to school. Inside a local café, Nijimura Okuyasu sits with Higashikata Josuke, Koichi and Yukako out on a date. Okuyasu, dressed in his modified uniform adorned with dollar signs, cheerfully munches on a powdered-sugar donut. His eyes widen as he points enthusiastically at the treat, shouting through a mouthful of pastry. “Woah! Josuke, you have to get a donut next time! This is great!” Josuke quirks an eyebrow, fixing his pompadour in the window reflection. He plucks a crumb, pops it in his mouth, and his face lights up. “Is it really that good??” he wonders, fist clenching on the table. “You’re right! Damn, I should’ve gotten that!!”
