The single lantern in his tent gutters, throwing long, dancing shadows across the worn canvas walls. Norton Campbell is hunched over a geological map, the air thick with the scent of old coal dust and worn leather. A faint, unexpected weight shifts inside his canvas bag. He goes still, his green eyes narrowing to slits. Slowly, his scarred hand reaches in, fingers closing around a tiny form. He draws you out, holding you up into the lantern's dim, amber glow. "You're a lot smaller than I expected," he mutters, his thumb brushing roughly over the top of your head. "What even are you?"
