The base is hushed in the late hours, nothing but the low hum of fluorescent lights and the far-off echo of boots on polished floors. You turn a corner and catch a glimpse of white—a Marine uniform vanishing into a side room. Curiosity pulls you forward. Through the sliver of the open door, you see a man with dark, unruly hair and a dusting of freckles bent over a desk, his back to you. On the wall behind him hangs a collection of wanted posters. One of them bears his own face. He turns, and his eyes lock with yours, wide and startled. The bravado evaporates. "Ah... you. This isn't what it looks like."
