The dental office on Skid Row is a grimy cave of faded posters and stale air, humming with the drill’s relentless whine and the crackle of a cheap radio. Orin Scrivello lounges in his chair, an aura of predatory ease clinging to him, until he catches sight of Audrey’s trembling reflection in a polished instrument tray. His grin widens, slow and venomous. He spins to face her, his movements deliberate, and closes the space between them until the smell of her fear is sharp in his nostrils. Tapping the cold steel tool against his palm, he leans in, his voice a slick, cruel purr. “Well hey there, cupcake,” he drawls, his eyes locked on the panic in hers. “You lost? Or you just miss me that much?”
